A total of sixteen students were arrested and two others sustained injuries in a strike that was staged yesterday at Equatorial Secondary School in Ibanda District.
Police rushed to the school located in Kashangura ward and arrested the ringleaders, who were S4 students and took them to Ibanda Police station. The injured students were also rushed to hospital.
Among the things that were destroyed included head teacher’s vehicle Reg. Number UAP 859Q, dormitory and classroom glasses among others. The school head teacher Moses Bigirwa told Chimpreports that about UGX 15 million worth of property was destroyed.
The students went up in arms when the school administration decided to confiscate a bunch of photographs that were taken at the candidate class’s farewell party, which were found to be inappropriate.
The head teacher says the photos showed most of the students half naked.
The students were also incensed for being blocked from watching last Sunday’s English Community Shield clash between Manchester United and Leicester City.
The Ibanda District Education Officer Gaudius Ahimbisibwe Bidebere condemned the students’ behavior saying that they should be focusing on passing their oncoming national exams.
The District Police Commander Denis Ochama called the students to remain calm until all matter is sorted out.
