Over 76 Members of Parliament are on the verge of losing their seats if the Constitutional Court rules in agreement with a city advocate who says that their constituencies were illegally created and demarcated by the Electoral Commission.
City Advocate Andrew Tumusiime has petitioned the Constitutional Court for declarations that the 76 constituencies were not prescribed for and endorsed by parliament as required by the Constitution.
Tumusiime filed the petition against the Attorney General and the Electoral Commission which conducted elections in the said illegal constituencies.
He says the constitution empowers Parliament alone to prescribe and endorse new constituencies upon which the EC bases its decision to demarcate boundaries to conduct elections; which was not the case with the contentious 76 constituencies.
The elections which Tumusiime wants to be declared null and void are those from constituencies which were allegedly created between the period of 2011 and 2016.
Tumusiime in the same petition wonders what business all the 76 Legislators are conducting in the august house well knowing that they are illegally in there.
In the meantime the Attorney General and the Electoral commission have not yet been summoned to respond to these allegations.
