The Inspectorate of Government has ordered fresh charges against jailed former Principle Accountant in the Office of the Prime Minister Geoffrey Kazinda, relating to illicit enrichment before the Anti corruption court.
According to committal papers presented to chief magistrate Agnes Alum by the IGG’s Director in Charge of Legal Affairs Sarah Birungi, Kazinda maintained a high standard of lifestyle and was also found in possession of assets that were disproportionate to his current and previous declared sources of income.
Burungi states that during the period of 2009 and 2012 Kazinda earned 83.7 million shillings in salary and allowances as a Principle Accountant in the OPM but he lived a luxurious life with 4 expensive porsche cars that included a BMW, and Mercedes Benzes valued at a cost of over 350 million shillings and Assets inform of houses at Bukoto Nakawa division Kampala district which are valued at 3billion shillings
The same documents also point out that Kazinda at one time rented a room (105) at Sheraton Hotel for 10 days at a fee of 210 million shillings.
The IGG says this lifestyle and property were acquired by Kazinda using front men and pseudo names of Charles Kamunvi and the Registered Trustees of Kisubi Christian Instruction Brothers who are willing to testify against him.
Further evidence shall also be laid at the trial to the effect that Kazinda only had 3.9 million shillings in his known bank accounts at Housing Finance Bank and Bank of Africa as of January 2009.
Kazinda is currently housed at Luzira prison where he is serving a 5 year jail term for forging his former boss’s signature Pius Bigirimana who was by then the Permanent Secretary in the OPM.
