Police in Bundibugyo have commenced investigations into an incident in which 2 UPDF soldiers acted recklessly and shot each other dead last week.

Addressing journalists on Monday, police spokesperson Fred Enanga narrated that 27 year old Pte Mike Ssali Kasule and Pte, Isaac Isingoma, 24, recklessly played with their guns leading to their deaths.

“Both of them attached to Mungudiyokubwa army detach under the 2nd UPDF division had gone to collect supper from Kyakatimba trading centre  where it had been dropped by the vehicle  and on their way back, they challenged each other in shooting,” Enanga said.

“Pte Kasule who had an SMG rifle challenged Pte Isingoma that he could fire 3 bullets in the air using one hand.”

At this moment, Enanga said, the challenge begun and Kasule was able to fire 2 bullets but before going for the third one, the hand lost balance and the bullet hit Isingoma on the head, killing him instantly.

“On realizing  what he had done, Pte. Kasule turned the gun and shot himself into the neck and died on spot,” the police publicist said on Monday.

He said that the commanders at Kibuku barracks later sent an operational officer who recovered the 2 guns from the deceased and returned them to the barracks together with 4 cartridges.
