The National Resistance Movement Members of Parliament have resolved to expand Cabinet, Chimpreports has established.

The Caucus meeting at State House Entebbe on Friday deliberated on increasing the number of Cabinet Ministers from 28 to 31.

On Monday the President named 31 Cabinet Ministers who have not been approved by Parliament, except the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

Article 113 (2) of the 1995 Constitution says the President can only increase the number of Cabinet ministers with the approval of Parliament.

Today’s meeting was thus meant to convince the NRM members to endorse the increment of cabinet.

A source who attended the State House meeting told ChimpReports that the significant Majority NRM MPs unanimously resolved to increase the size of Cabinet.

“All members agreed to the expansion of Cabinet. It was well presented before us and we got the core spirit of this proposal,” a source confided.

Parliament is expected to sit next week and pass a resolution to expand Cabinet before the vetting exercise starts.

The recently added Cabinet ministries are: the Kampala Capital City Authority which was split from the Presidency as well as Science, Technology and Innovation which was split from Education ministry.

The Public Service Ministry which used to be held by the First Deputy Prime Minister  is now
under Minister Muruli Mukasa.
