The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Deputy Managing Director Mrs. Geraldine Ssali Busuulwa has rushed to the High Court challenging the pension body’s recent decision to send her on a forced leave.
Ms Ssali was on March 9 compelled to take a involuntary leave by NSSF for reasons the body declined to disclose.
A source there however, told us that Ssali is being investigated over acts of misconduct.
“The fund has many problems,” the source said. “This is the least we expected. She is a victim of usual bickering.”
Ssali a few days ago petitioned the Kampala High Court seeking termination of the forced leave.
The court is slated to convene on April 14th, to hear her petition in which she files for an order quashing NSSF’s directive that she takes an immediate forced leave and hands over her office.
Ssali also wants a “permanent injunction blocking NSSF and its officials from implementing the said directive; and also a court declaration that the directive was illegal.”
Observers say the move could drag the Fund in a protracted and costly legal battle.
Ssali oversaw the Fund’s management for the entire year as acting Managing Director while Richard Byarugaba was re-applying for the MD job after expiry of his contract.
