The Uganda National Oil Company’s Board of Directors has appointed Mrs. Josephine Kasalamwa Wapakhabulo as the first Chief Executive Director of the company.
Mrs Kasalamwa, who is also daughter of former foreign affairs Minister James Waphakabulo, was announced head of the company the Board Chairman Emmanuel Katongole.
Established under the 2013 Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act, UNOC is mandated to ensure an adequate, reliable and affordable supply of quality petroleum products in the country.
Government according to the existing production-sharing agreements with the oil exploration companies; can participate with between 15 to 20 percent in production. It is the National Oil Company that will participate in production on behalf of the state.
Dr Kasalamwa will lead the set up of UNOC and manage its transition into a world class oil and gas company prepare for oil production,” he said.
“She comes with a 15 year experience in implementing inventive solutions and achieving business solutions through effective leadership, team building and project management expertise in leading multinational companies,” he said.
“She has worked extensively on standards of the petroleum industry focusing on integrating life cycle data for oil and gas production facilities.”
Katongole expressed hope that the new CEO, who boosts of high level training from France and the UK will bring energy, experience and enthusiasm to the oil company.
