Days after opposition Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) announced a boycott on supporters of the ruling government as well as artists, a new campaign has been rolled out.
In the old campaign dubbed “Free my Vote,” supporters were to stay at home every Thursday, in protest of the incarceration of the party candidate Col Dr Kizza Besigye.
Youthful supporters of the party this morning unveiled a new campaign they called the “Blue Friday Campaign” in which supporters who voted for Besigye are called upon to dress in blue every Friday as a way of expressing support to their candidate who is currently under house arrest at his home in Kasangati
Unveiling this campaign at 4GC Headquarters in Kampala, Kahemba Babi the national coordinator of the Blue Friday revealed that all Ugandans have a right to express dissatisfaction on matters affecting them.
In this case he said, they have decided to use Blue to show their dissatisfaction with the February election results where president Museveni was declared winner
“Blue Friday has been agreed upon as one among many other nonviolent campaigns to reclaim the people’s victory and instate Kizza Besigye as the elected President of Uganda,” he said.
Kahemba added that as youths, they were not interested in any more violent campaigns but aimed at peaceful means to bring change in the country.
“We demand for an independent audit assisted by eminent persons and delegated political party officials to audit the Feb/18/2016 Presidential elections,” he noted.
These further called upon the international community to intervene in Uganda’s politics through tasking the ruling government to create a peaceful and democratic environment to all Ugandans especially the opposition leaders.
