Mbarara’s Chief Magistrates Court has attached three government vehicles belonging to Isingiro District Local Government, after their failure to pay off a UGX 21 million debt.
One Maria Tuhirirwe sued the district in 2010 for terminating her contract as a district animal tax collector.
Tuhurirwe told court that the district terminated her contract before its expiry when she had paid the required UGX 5million to get it.
Chief magistrate Philip Odoki ruled in the plaintiff’s favor and she was to be paid Shs. 8million in total.
However, the district did not comply until this month when the court issued a warranty of attachment for three of the district’s Ford Rangers.
The new Double cabins (registration numbers UG 3163R, LG 0016-034 and UG 799B) are rated at about 100 million each on the market.
Police together with court bailiff Julius Abaasa have since impounded the vehicles and are to be sold to raise the money which has since accumulated to UGX 21million.
Speaking to Chimpreports, Donath Eswelu the driver of one of the vehicles said he was unaware of the court order and that he and his department were never informed about it.
