VP Ssekandi Still Strong and Around

The Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi who is now 73 years has said he is still strong and not about to leave the political arena.

Ssekandi who has been the MP for Bukoto Central County in Masaka district since 1996 was on Wednesday sworn in for the 5th term.

He is among the oldest politicians in Parliament, some of who served in the Constituent Assembly like the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and the Opposition Chief Whip, Cecilia Ogwal.

Talking to journalists at Parliament after taking oath, Sekandi said he is not yet thinking of calling it quits.

“I am still a strong person and there is no need to think of leaving active politics now. I am still around for today and tomorrow,” Ssekandi said.

The soft spoken politician stressed that he is doing a great service both to his constituency as a Member of Parliament and also as Vice President.

“I am still serving and doing it well in the constituency and the country,” he stressed.

Ssekandi served as the Speaker of 7th and 8th Parliament after a two terms as the Deputy Speaker.

His chances to feature in the next cabinet solely lie in the hands of the appointing authority- President Yoweri Museveni.
