Kawempe South Member of Parliament, Mubarak Munyagwa has vowed to dedicate his entire term in the 10th Parliament fighting and advocating for the rights and freedoms of opposition politicians who are time and again arrested and persecuted by the ruling government.

Munyagwa told Chimpreports at the Parliamentary building yesterday after being sworn-in that he would not sit and watch government mistreat opposition figures especially FDC’s Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye, who is now on Treason charges.

“My first task in the first week in Parliament will be to fight for the rights of Dr. Kizza Besigye; the man has been mistreated by this ruling government for a long period of time. It’s time he is given his freedom,” Munyagwa said.

“For as long as Besigye remains in Prison, I will not be shaving hair off my body; for as long as it takes.”

He added that his second task will be to lobby members to support the reduction of members in the house.

“I will look for means to see that members in the house are reduced; look at this small building, it can’t even accommodate all of us during a session.”

“If this can’t be done, I advocate that we schedule two sittings per day; one in the morning and another in the evening so that all members will have a chance to have their views heard.”
