The Special Forces Commander, Brig Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been promoted to the rank of Major General.
Muhoozi is among 800 soldiers promoted this week.
He commands a force responsible for the command, control and administration of UPDF Special Forces.
Muhoozi reports directly to the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Gen. Yoweri Museveni.
In a communiqué to all UPDF units, the Commander in Chief Yoweri Museveni directed publication of the names of those promoted, before congratulating those elevated.
They include NRA war historical, Major General Joram Mugume who has now been elevated to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Mugume, who served as deputy Army Commander, played a key role in decisive battles that saw NRA seize power in 1986.
He is a renowned tactician and battlefield commander.
The Deputy Commander of the UPDF Airforce, Col Charles Lutaaya was equally promoted to the rank of Brigadier.
The elevation comes at a time when the army is spearheading the modification of the airforce.
War jets aimed at displaying Uganda’s airpower roared in the skies during President Museveni’s inauguration this past Thursday.
The Deputy Special Forces Commander, Col Sabiiti Muzeeyi Magyenyi was promoted to the position of Brigadier.
The Chief Of Staff Air Force, Col Sam Birungi Mugabe, is now a Brigadier.
Birungi took over from Major General Jim Oweyisigire following the UPDF chopper crash in Kenya.
