The Uganda Police Force have denied allegations that former FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye beat their 24 hour security at his home and slipped into the city center where he was arrested last Wednesday.
Addressing journalists on Monday morning, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said there is no way the opposition strongman could have slid past their tight surveillance system, adding that they knew he would move out and proceed to the city centre.
“Our surveillance operatives have well developed communication networks surrounding his home and the neighbors. We even know there are accesses through the perimeter walls. We are conversant with his home and the surroundings,”Enanga said.
The police mouthpiece revealed that even on the day when Besigye stormed the city centre, they were closely monitoring his activities and that it was not accidental.
“Even when he reached the city centre, we didn’t panic because we had him in our sight. That is why we took long to fire teargas to disperse the crowd. It didn’t take us by surprise.”
On the investigations on their officers who were guarding Besigye’s home, Enanga said no one of them is being investigated either by the Special Forces Command or the Police Professional Standards Unit as reported.
Besigye on Wednesday, a day to President Museveni’s swearing descended to the city center before being arrested by the police and shortly detained at Naggalama police station and later flown to Moroto where he was charged with treason by the local magistrates court.
