Table leaders KCCA FC recovered from a dull first half to beat rivals SC Villa in the Azam Uganda Premier League in a game played at Nakivubo on Friday evening.
Both teams created a handful of clear chances at each other’s goal in the first half of the game with Paul Mucureezi and Derrick Nsibambi’s shots being the notable ones for the visitors.
The record Ugandan league champions on the other side tried to see the back of the net through Martin Kizza , Eturude and Mike Sserumaga but these were also not lucky enough to score against the table leaders.
Meanwhile, in the second half, both teams were revitalised and attacked each other in a bid to break the deadlock.
The visitors introduced Sulaiman Akinyemi(73) in place of Ceaser Okuthi who was no longer effective infront of the goal and only 12 minutes on the pitch, the new force scored KCCA FC’s winner in the 85th minute mark sending the fans into frenzy.
The late goal ensured the Jogoos paid the debt they had accumulated when they controversially beat KCCA FC in the Uganda Cup finals in a game replayed at Namboole after ending unceremoniously in Ntungamo.
In an interview with Chimpreports, KCCA FC captain Dennis Okot heaped praise on his side which he said played hard to ensure they bagged all the 3 points from the game.
“SC Villa are one of our biggest rivals and they played well but eventually we broke them and scored,”Okot said adding that their struggle for winning the league continues .
However, the hosts’ captain and defender Jonathan Mugabi blamed laxity for his team’s loss in the last minutes of the game.
“We had played well but the boys lacked concentration in the last minute and we conceded,”skipper Mugabi told ChimpSport.
The win ensured Kasasiro boys extended their lead to 53 points with only 2 games left for them to end the league.KCC
