Mbarara Raises 20M to Save Carol

Mbarara residents over the weekend ardently joined in the ongoing campaign to raise money needed for the treatment of cancer patient Carol Atuhairwe, in the United States.

A number of companies and individuals came out in numbers to take part in the car wash drive.

Some of the companies that participated include UNRA, Igongo Cultural Centre, Epicenter, Airtel Uganda, Mbarara Regional Referral hospital, Global Buses, Tusiime Foundations, Vision Group and BSU staff, and many others.

Hundreds on Saturday morning thronged the Posh Bar in Rwebikona, in Mbarara Municipality to take part in a the car wash.

On top of the car wash where every car went for Shs. 30,000, more money was raised through meat roasting, T-shirts, bracelets, pens and stickers from which up to Shs. 8million was collected.

Benton Mwebaze who is coordinating the campaign in the district told Chimpreports that earlier in the week another 11.6million had been collected.

Some of the notables in Mbarara that participated included tycoon Francis Ishanga, Rwizi regional police commander Hilary Kulayige as well as religious institutions like All Saints’ Church, Uganda Martyrs and Holy Spirit Churches.

Carol, who lost her ability to speak and eat normally, needs about Shs 270million to have her throat reconstructed in the United States.
