The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura has warned the force’s Director in charge of Human Resource Development Andrew Felix Kaweesi to be cautious of what he termed as intrigue and rumor mongering in the force.
Speaking at a function to pass out over 500 officers from the UPDF and police force at the Non Commissioned Officers’ Academy in Jinja, Gen. Kayihura said that many officers especially at the force headquarters in Naguru are always engaged in bickering.
“When I took you from being director operations to Human resource development, they wondered why we had fallen out. Many of those people especially at the headquarters (Naguru) were always whispering to each other and asking what you had done,” Gen. Kayihura told Kaweesi.
“You are a teacher by training and bringing you to human resource was to ensure you strengthen the force unlike what others were saying.”
The police boss said that training is the lifeblood of any organization noting that in the past the force had problems building its strength, but has now moved bigger strides in realizing that goal.
“Those people are the usual rumor mongers who feed such information to journalists. If you fall prey to them, that will be your fault .You will only have to plead to God and not anyone else,” the police chief warned the director human resource development.
Disobedience
Gen. Kayihura cautioned officers who have on several occasions refused to go for refresher courses saying that these will have to face the wrath of the law for disobeying lawful orders.
Earlier, the Human resource director, Andrew Felix Kaweesi had highlighted that many officers have adamantly refused to go for the courses when chosen and warned that they risk being terminated from the force.
The police boss said that disobeying orders in the force tantamount to indiscipline which he argued that cannot be tolerated.
“Going for refresher course is not optional. Those who refuse should be jailed for disobeying orders,” Gen.Kayihura warned.
He said that trainings are not punishments for officers but mechanisms intended to enhance their professional skills .
A total of 303 police officers were passed out after undergoing a 6 month joint training course with the UPDF at the Non Commissioned Officers’ Academy in Jinja .
