Suleiman Kabuye the Kigezi Regional Police Officer in Charge of Criminal Intelligence Investigations Department (CIID) has been suspended over misuse of office.
His troubles began after he arrested two women Hope Kaito and Jolly Bagarukayo, who were accused of having a hand in the death of one Joan Gisagara, the Kabale Municipality NRM Women’s League Chairperson.
The latter passed away last month after she was allegedly poisoned.
Relatives of the accused women on hearing that they were being detained at the Kabale Central Police Station rushed to the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and filed a complaint.
The relatives told the Premier that Mr Kabuye had no grounds to arrest the two ladies adding that he had deeper interest in the case. The CIID boss according to the petitioners was having an affair with the deceased politician.
On Saturday last week, the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura intervened in the matter and ordered for the arrest of the police officer, who was accused of misusing his office.
Chimpreports understands that Mr Kabuye was transported to Kampala for questioning through the weekend and released on Monday to return home and hand over his office, which he did yesterday Thursday.
Commissioner of police Fortunate Habyara the commandant of the Police professions standards unit confirmed Kabuye’s suspension as investigations into the matter carry on.
