Paidha Black Angels defied odds to reach their first ever final in the Uganda Cup. The Zombo district based side became the second team from Fufa Big League to reach the finals (after Onduparaka last year).
With just six days to the highly anticipated final between Paidha Black Angels and KCCA FC, Chimp Reports continues with the extensive analysis and countdown to the final of the 43rd edition.
In today’s article, we look at Paidha Black Angels road to the final.
Round of 64
Just like every Fufa Big League team, Paidha Black Angels started their campaign at this stage.
They had to make a daunting trip to Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku in Kampala to take on Hope Doves.
The game ended in a 3-3 draw in normal time and had to be decided on a penalty shootout.
Paidha eventually won the tense shootout 4-3 to progress to the next round.
Round of 32
The draws pitted Paidha Black Angels against Lira’s Bright Light and still the angels had to travel away.
There were no scores after normal time and thus, the tie had to be decided on spot kicks. The Zombo based side won 5-4 on penalties.
Round of 16
Playing their third game in Uganda Cup, Paidha Black Angels still had the draws pit them against Western regional side Fort Boda Boda Football club still away from home.
Paidha had to endure another long trip from Zombo to Buhinga stadium in Fort Portal town.
The game ended in a one all draw in normal time. And like the trend had been at the previous rounds, Paidha still won the penalty contest 2-1 to book a berth in the quarterfinals.
Quarterfinals
At this stage, Paidha were drawn against defending champions Vipers and still, they had to play away from home.
The Black Angels defied odds edging past holders Vipers and condemning them to their first defeat at the newly constructed St.Mary’s stadium.
Fred Amako scored the lone goal to send Paidha Black Angels to the semifinals.
Semifinals
Paidha Black Angels drew Sadolin Paints in the semifinals. Being a two legged affair, Paidha hosted the first leg at the Bar Okoro stadium in Zombo district.
Emmanuel Rubangakene and Okumu scored to help Paidha win the first leg 2-0.
The return leg at Namboole ended 2-1 in favour of Sadolin Paints but Fred Amaku’s away goal proved vital helping Paidha Black Angels progress to their first ever final 3-2 on aggregate.
Paidha Black Angels take on KCCA FC in the finals on 15th June at the Betway Greenlight stadium in Arua District.
