Construction has kicked off of a four storied housing structure for medical interns and doctors at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.
The multi purpose building estimated at Shs. 7billion will have a recreational centre and will accommodate over 100 interns and doctors.
It is hoped to address accommodation challenges at the regional referral hospital which have been hindering service delivery.
Ronald Kasheija, the Kabale DISO who represented the RDC as chief guest at the ground breaking ceremony on Monday, reiterated that the district leaders will keep monitoring progress to ensure that the contractor completes work in time. He asked the contractor to be transparent and provide good quality work.
Dr Alex Andema, the director Kabale Regional Referral Hospital said at the event that out of the 250 staff members the hospital has, only 30 stay in the hospital while 120 rent in town.
He added that they have been grappling with staff that come and report but after failing to get accommodation abandon their jobs.
The construction work is being done by Musuuza Buildings Contractors and is expected to be completed in 5 years.
