President Yoweri Museveni and former South Sudan ruling party’s Secretary General, Pagan Amum disagreed at State House Entebbe on Friday last week.
Museveni convened three factions of SPLM on Friday to find a way of uniting them and solving the 3 years internal conflict that was triggered by the disintegration in the ruling party.
The sacking of Dr. Riek Machar and Pagan Amum as the Vice Chairperson and Secretary General of SPLM respectively culminated in the December 2013 National Delegates Conference’s catastrophe and eventually the bloody civil war.
Museveni, who has been a close ally of SPLA/M, now wants to unite the party basing on the January 2015 SPLM Arusha Reunification Agreement. The Arusha agreement declared that all SPLM officials sacked by President Salva Kiir, who is also the party chairperson, should be reinstated to their positions before the crisis.
The documents of the Friday Entebbe meeting obtained by ChimpReports revealed that only two SPLM factions of Kiir and Taban Deng agreed with Museveni and put their signatures in confirmation. Pagan Amum who is now the leader of SPLM Former Detainees didn’t sign the document.
According to sources, Pagan Amum and his group disagreed because of the exclusion of Riek Machar group in the Entebbe reunification process.
“It’s not unification if one important faction with the army and big following is left out. Pagan Amum and the group did the expected,” a source said.
The Entebbe event was also attended by the South Sudan ambassador to Uganda, Samuel Luate Leminsuk as an observer.
