President Yoweri Museveni has Monday made an unannounced visit to South Sudanese capital, Juba.

According to sources in Juba, Museveni is in the volatile nation for the swearing in of the National Dialogue Steering Committee that is aimed at peacefully addressing the bloody internal conflict that has entered the fourth year.

“Comrade Museveni, who has stood with us for decades, is today here to help us in the quest of ending the war peacefully,” a source at presidential palace who asked not to be named said.

The Ugandan government under Museveni played a crucial role in the independence of the majority Christian South Sudan from the Muslim Arab North, Khartoum.

Ugandan army,UPDF were deployed in Juba and Jonglei state capital, Bor when war broke out in the country in December 2013.

The UPDF withdrew in October 2015 after signing of peace agreement between President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Dr. Riek Machar.

The agreement and the unity government however collapsed in July last year and the country returned to conflict.

Early this year Kiir instituted the National Dialogue Steering Committee that is being sworn in today.

When contacted on phone on Monday afternoon, the Presidential Press Secretary, Don. Wanyama confirmed that Museveni is in Juba but asked our reporter to wait for the official statement.
