Police Deploys at Byanyima Home as Family Condemns ‘Media Misrepresentations’

The bereaved family of Mzee Boniface Byanyima has Wednesday expressed disdain at some of the media reports that came out today following the passing of the former Democrat and statesman at Nakasero Hospital on Tuesday.

Pastor Hannington Noowe, a nephew to deceased while speaking to Chimpreports at Byanyima’s home in Ruti, Mbarara said there were “some irresponsible reports” about deceased.”

“We were taken aback by some of the media reports today that Mzee was a protestant but asked to be buried in the Catholic Faith. This is not true.  We the family members and relatives were perturbed by these claims,” he said.

Pastor Noowe, despite not being immediate blood of the deceased, said he grow up at the late Byanyima’s house and had never heard him uttering such a statement.

Meanwhile, he told us that burial arrangement were still being made by family members in Kampala and would be made known later.

“Most of the immediate family members are not here, and we are not supposed to speak much on their behalf. We can only wait upon them,” he said.

 “By tomorrow we will have chosen a spokesperson to speak to you because we don’t want to give contradictory statements that will cause confusion.”

At the time we visited the house, an increasing presence of the police was noticeable.

The area Regional Police Commander Robert Walugembe told Chimpreports that they “intend to ensure that security is at its highest throughout the burial arrangement.”
