
Kawempe Muslim have been dominant in girls football competitions for quite a while. However, their reign was put to a halt on Sunday.
Mukono High school who have become a force to reckon with in as far as women’s football is concerned emerged champions at the just concluded ball games in Kabaale District.
In the final played on Sunday at Police playground, Mukono High and Kawempe Muslim played to a goalless draw but the former went ahead to win the title on penalties (3-1).
Mukono High who had lost to Kawempe 4-1 last year in Masindi earned sweet revenge to emerge champions.
Goalkeeper Karungi Vanessa was at her peak saving two penalties in the shootout to help Mukono High clinch their first ever title. She had also saved two penalties in the semifinals against Gadaffi integrated academy.
Karungi ended the tournament without conceding a goal in normal time (8 clean sheets) and was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Mukono High had eliminated Gaddafi Integrated in the semifinals while Kawempe Muslim edged past Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga.
Kawempe’s Juliet Nalukenge was named the Most Valuable player and also the top scorer with 33 goals.
Gadaffi integrated academy defeated Uganda Martyrs in the third place playoff and the three teams will represent Uganda at the East Africa Secondary School games to be hosted in Uganda in August.
