
Police in Kibaale are holding two men for allegedly tapping fuel meant to be used in the tarmacking of Mubende- Kagadi Road.
David Otabongo, the Kibaale District Police Commander identified the suspects as Sam Lubowa a driver of a Bulldozer, and Wilson Kyaligonza, a motorcyclist.
Otabongo says these were reported to police on Thursday by concerned residents who found them siphoning the fuel into jerry cans.
Other people believed to be part of the racket took off on hearing police gunshots during the arrest of the duo.
One of the suspects Lubowa was the driver of a bulldozer registration number UAK 758N belonging to China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), the company that was contracted to tarmac the Mubende-Kagadi road. The other suspect Kyaligonza, is a Bodaboda cyclist from Bugwara trading centre in Kiryanga Sub County.
These are said to have tapped 80 liters of fuel from the bulldozer at the time of arrest, at around 9pm.
Police also impounded the motorcycle registration number UEM 074J which was being used in transporting the stolen fuel.
Samuel Kisembo Araali, the Kibaale Resident District Commissioner commended residents for being vigilant.
