Members of Parliament who have been investigating the infamous Shs 6bn presidential handshake are scheduled to meet and extract statements from President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday.
The parliamentary committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises started investigating the matter in late January 2017 when Speaker Rebecca Kadaga gave them the mandate on 20th of the same month.
The Committee chaired by the Bugweri County MP, Abdu Katuntu has already met all witnesses involved in the initiating, soliciting and finally disbursing the staggering amount to 42 civil servants who are already on government payroll.
The questionable payment that was exposed by ChimpReports, was allegedly made to the officials for their roles in the tax battle between Uganda and the British oil giant, Heritage Oil and Gas Company.
Members of the committee have also already met the foreign lawyers who were hired both by the office of the Attorney General and Uganda Revenue Authority in London.
The last witness is president Museveni and according to a source his day is tomorrow.
“We have agreed with State House and finally meeting the His Excellency on the handshake tomorrow,” a source in the committee who asked not to be named said.
According to the available documents, Museveni met the handshake beneficiaries at his upcountry home in Rwakitura and later wrote a letter to the minister of Finance, Maria Kasaija to release the Shs 6bn.
