SC Villa 1-1 KCCA FC
The top of the table clash between SC Villa and KCCA FC ended with no winner as the two sides settled for a 1-1 all draw.
The game played at Masaka Recreation ground on Saturday lived to the billing with both teams putting up a fantastic display.
SC Villa had themselves to blame for the several chances missed but also felt hard done by referee Brian Nsubuga who denied them would be penalties.
Villa started the better side creating several chances but could not find the target.
As early as the 7th minute, Emmanuel Okwi had the chance to give the hosts an early lead but his attempt was easily collected by goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan.
He had a similar chance moments later with Ambrose Kirya releasing him but Ochan was swift enough to tame him.
KCCA FC had defender Paul Musamali to thank at the quarter hour mark clearing off the line Ambrose Kirya’s goal bound effort.
The visitors first attempt at goal came in the 31st minute off Isaac Muleme’s brilliant run but youngster Okello Allan missed with his curled effort sailing just above the goal area.
Okello was later withdrawn at the start of the second half with Paul Mucureezi replacing him.
League leading goalscorer Geoffrey Sserunkuma broke the deadlock three minutes after the break with a simple tap.
Goalkeeper Samson Kirya failed to deal with Brian Majwega’s thunderous effort and Sserunkuma was quick enough to tap home the rebound.
Wasswa Bossa called for changes introducing Dennis Kamanzi and Umar Kasumba for Vitalis Tabu and Abel Eturude respectively.
KCCA FC almost doubled the lead at the hour mark but goalkeeper Kirya tipped over Timothy Awany’s powerful header.
The final substitution for SC Villa came in the 69th minute with Martin Kiiza paving way for Farouk Musisi.
The change paid off dividends three minutes later with the fullback cum winger winning a penalty after goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan tripped him in the area.
Emmanuel Okwi did no mistake to convert from 12 yards sending Ochan the wrong way to level matters.
The final quarter belonged to SC Villa making endless attacks and had two calls for penalties but centre referee Nsubuga denied them.
The first was in the 83rd minute with defender Awany handling the ball in the box while Musamali also did the same with a minute to play but Nsubuga waved for play on.
Match officials had to be whisked away by Police to avoid the wrath of angry Villa fans.
The result means KCCA FC and SC Villa are still equal on points (48) but the former are top with a superior goal difference.
