Buikwe North Member of Parliament (MP), Captain Paul Musoke Sebulime has called upon government to consider a number of issues if the revival of the Uganda Airways is to be sustainable.
While launching his book titled, Revival of Uganda’s National Carrier, Musoke told the media at Parliament on Friday that reviving will cost Uganda much more than finances and political good will noting that the aviation industry will need focus, zeal and commitment to make effort that is worth a success.
Recently, cabinet approved a proposal to get the Uganda Airline project started, bringing on board a transactional adviser to guide the process.
Musoke said that all protocol must be respected as well as specifying the responsibility of each ministry and all documentation is in place at the right time and in the right sequence failure to which may cost Uganda an eternal termination of the Aviation Industry by ICAO.
“International recommended processes and referenced documents should be respected in attempting to re-establish the national airline which will ease the certification and authenticity of the international aviation community,” Musoke said.
“The laws in this country are contrary to the laws governing aviation industry; when the aviation industry is enforcing this government is bringing in issues of bureaucracy arrangement, the only option is to ensure that the airline industry is autonomous,” Musoke advised.
Musoke advised Government to include the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) in the revival strategy of Uganda Airlines due to the expertise they can bring to the sector.
“Consider adopting UPDF personnel in operation since they are trained, well experienced, available, willing and they patriotically respect orders whenever need arises,” Musoke observed.
He further advised that the name Uganda Airlines be dropped, for Uganda Airways because the Uganda Airlines lost international image and burdened with debts.
“It is prudent to re-name the Airlines because the old name is very likely to affect the new Airline Business negatively; the necessity of a new name will be to avoid loss of clientele as a result of the past memories associated with the defunct airline.”
