The state minister for disaster preparedness and refugees Musa Francis Ecweru has blamed the Uganda Police Force on action taken against the locals of Tororoma County in Katakwi district who had gathered to receive food relief donated by the Uganda’s main opposition party FDC on Wednesday.
Police on Wednesday last commanded by the RPC East Kyoga Francis Tumwesigye trigged live bullets and teargas to disperse the hunger hit locals of Toroma who had gathered to receive food relief donated by Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Despite his address to the media on Wednesday that, http://cherrylanefarms.com/wp-admin/includes/image.php Dr. Besigye was not allowed to distribute food in Teso, http://crazytour.am/wp-includes/functions.wp-styles.php Minister Ecweru says the police don’t have any hand in food distribution.
“It’s my office to stop food relief not Police. What happened in Toroma is unfortunate and actions by police to fire teargas must be questioned”, Ecweru said.
He made this remarks while addressing the media at his home in Angole village Wera Sub County in Amuria district on Sunday morning.
“It’s the first time this is happening in many years of the NRM regime and its unfortunate that happened. There is no group or organization that must be differed from giving out food aid to the starving Ugandans. Police don’t distribute relief, which letter did they need from FDC”, He said.
He also blamed Dr. Besigye on the commotion that took place on Wednesday saying the four time Presidential candidate had not notified the office responsible for relief.
“Dr. Besigye should also be blamed, he did not write to my office on his food donation so even me I was not aware on what was going on. I want also to put it clear that all organizations giving out relief must inform disaster office to avoid duplication”, He sounded.
However the police spokesperson East Kyoga Michael Odongo when contacted on allegations labeled against police said, police was acting on orders from above.
“Police does not act on their own but we are told to do so”, Odongo said on phone. Before adding that, the district authorities of Katakwi were not satisfied with the Besigye’s relief.
