A police officer has Wednesday morning shot and injured himself in a scuffle between the Moses Magogo and Dan Walusimbi Fufa factions at Fufa House in Mengo.
Bernard Ibanda, an officer from Lungujja police post reportedly shot himself thrice in the thigh after the Walusimbi faction invaded.
The Magogo led Fufa was holding a weekly press briefing.
According to an eye witness, the officer “had corked the gun when the Walusimbi group attacked and in the scuffle, he accidentally pulled the trigger shooting himself 3 times in thigh.”
“The police officer had entered an argument with Dan Walusimbi and his group of ex-players,” adds the witness who was at Fufa House at the time of the incident.
Over the recent past, Walusimbi and his group of sullen former Cranes players have invaded and interfered with Fufa proceedings.
They claim the current Magogo led Fufa leadership is illegitimate and should be chased out of Fufa House.
“Magogo doesn’t have a certificate of incorporation and his federation is illegal. Our cause is to bring sanity to football, the Fufa house at the moment is under Nkwanga Construction and company limited which means it is into the hands of individuals and that is what we are fighting against,” Walusimbi recently told journalists.
Fufa spokesman Hussein Ahmed has criticized the incident which he said was unfortunate.
“We are always attacked by unknown people like it was today. It is an unfortunate incident that someone has been injured,” said Hussein asking government for more security at the headquarters of the country’s football governing body.
Meanwhile, the injured officer has been rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical attention.
