Ndejje University Elites Flagged Off Ahead of African Club Championship

Ndejje University women’s volleyball team have Monday morning been flagged off ahead of the African women’s volleyball club championship.

In an event held at the Lugogo MTN indoor arena, a contingent of 16 people(12 players and 4 officials) were flagged off to represent Uganda at the national continental championship.

National Council of Sports(NCS) secretary general, Nicholas Mulamagi who was the chief guest at the event applauded Ndejje University for the contribution and commitment towards sports and encouraged the players to go and make Uganda forward.

“I take the delight to thank Ndejje University administration for the great contribution towards the sports sector. The facilitation, funding and commitment towards sports has been immense and they deserve the credit,” he said.

“I encourage the players to go and work to their best ability because at the moment, they are not only playing as a club or institution but they are carrying Uganda’s flag, Muramagi added.

Ndejje University Vice chancellor Eriabu Lugujjo who also graced the occasion indicated sports is one way that has been used to create awareness about Ndejje as an institution.

“When we excel in sports, the name of Ndejje University is automatically uplifted and that is why we have immensely invested in the sector and we are not disappointed,” said Lugujjo.

This will be the fourth time that the elites will represent Uganda at the annual African club championship with their best performance coming in 2013 when they finished 8th in Madagascar.

Egypt’s Al Ahly are the defending champions after defeating Tunisia’s Carthage 3-2 in the finals last year.

The team is expected to depart on 4th April (Tuesaday) for Kelibia City, Tunisia where the tournament will be held running from 2nd -16th April.
