Kayihura Warns Police Commanders Against Quick Accumulation of Wealth

The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura has warned police officers especially commanders against the tendency of wanting to accumulate wealth quickly.

Speaking at a function of pass out 73 police commanders at the Senior Command and Staff College in Bwebajja on Friday, Kayihura said there is a propensity by police commanders to accumulate wealth mostly through fraudulent ways.

“The most criticism from the public is that these officers are competing to have wealth quickly, “Gen. Kayihura said.

“Many of you have been accused of accumulating wealth in indecent ways.”

The police boss said it is not bad for anyone to accumulate wealth but warned that getting riches in fraudulent means in not allowed.

He therefore advised that officers should focus on working and serving the force and the country at large and that in the end they will be rewarded abundantly.

“Seek the kingdom of service and your country will cater for you,” he repeated his catch phase.

The IGP said that soon the country will start exploiting its oil and everyone will have to share it.

Kayihura said that many police officers are always in a hurry to accumulate wealth at a young age which he said is not professional.

“Why are you in a hurry? The police can build you apartments but don’t shame yourselves and us,” he warned.

He urged the police commanders to act professional and be men of integrity.

Among those officers who finished the 6 month course and passed out on Friday included James Ruhweza, former operations commander for Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Others were Sam Omara and Siraje Bakaleke among others.
