City Lawyer and Activist Andrew Karamagi who is accused of being a public nuisance by grabbing Attorney General’s Peter Nyombi speech in 2014 at High Court has asked Buganda Road court grade one magistrate Joan Aciro to issue a warrant of arrest for Corporal David Ogwal, a former bodyguard to Nyombi, for contempt of court.
Karamagi through his lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde made the request after Corporal Ogwal’s failure to testify in court yesterday having been served with summons.
“We apply to this Honourable court to issue a warrant of arrest to Corporal Ogwal or issuance of fresh witness summons through his commander VIPPU Senior Commissioner of Police Erias Kasilabo since we have established that he respects more the directions of his commander,” submitted Ssemakadde.
The magistrate however declined the request on grounds that the defense had not proved with any affidavit in court that the summons was delivered to Ogwal.
She instead issued fresh witness summons to Ogwal through his commander.
On Thursday, Detective ASP Elias Bairuka, the Investigating officer in this matter that was reported at CPS Kampala testified in court where he submitted statements he recorded from Hon Peter Nyombi, Karamagi’s statement as well as his very own statement as defence exhibits.
Further hearing of this matter was adjourned to 26 April 2017.
