National Security and intelligence organs have started investigating claims by a group of sextremists who recently confessed to have killed former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
The Uganda Patriotic Freedom Fighters (UPFF) accused the Uganda Police Force of arresting the wrong people in the murder of Kaweesi, and claimed to have masterminded the Friday March17 shooting of the police mouthpiece.
Addressing journalists on Monday, the new police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye said they cannot take lightly the claims, revealing they have started investigations into the group.
“The police and other intelligence organs will look into it and find out the truth of these allegations, “Kasingye said in response to a question from journalists.
“We know what we are doing and we are not leaving it at that.”
He added however, that they will not focus only on the group, but will explore many other possible suspects who might have carried out the gruesome murder.
Kasingye noted that there are many conspiracy theories in mainstream and social media in relation to the shooting of Kaweesi, but warned these should not be relied upon by the public.
He also warned the media about carrying out any form of speculations in relations to the investigations adding that the force will at an appropriate time come out with necessary information in relation to the case.
“Our main duty now is looking for the planners, funders and those who did the actual killing of our own officers. The public should be rest assured that we shall find the killers.”
