Masavu FC technical director Alex Gitta has blamed the loss of his team to Express FC to the poor standard of the referee at Wankulukuku.
Two goals from skipper Sadam Juma ensured Entebbe based Masavu exited the Uganda Cup on Saturday at the Round of 16.
However, Gitta, who sat in for the suspended team coach Allan Kabonge was not convinced that his team lost fairly against his former paymasters on Saturday.
“Referees with injuries ought to always be side-lined not to officiate at games. He officiated the game badly thus giving them a non- existent penalty,” Gitta said after the game on Saturday.
“When we were still eleven against eleven men, the game was moving on well but the poor referee gave us 2 red cards that cost us.
Masavu were left only 9 men after red cards were shown to Fred Umony and Lawrence Balikalanze in either half of the game.
The former Express FC tactician also blamed his team’s loss to fatigue after playing 3 games in a period of only 6 days, costing them in terms of fitness.
“We could not match a team that had spent over 10 days resting. We had to lose,” the Masavu coach noted adding that being the record winners; the home side had all chances on their side on the day.
The win on Saturday ensured Express FC progressed to the next round of the Uganda Cup.
Kitende based Vipers SC are the defending champions.
