President Yoweri Museveni yesterday spoke out at last on the succession talk that has been brewing among Ugandans of recent.
Responding to a question from journalists at his Kawumu demonstration farm on Tuesday afternoon, Museveni said it is not time to talk about succession yet.
“NRM is not an anarchic group,” he said. “We are not a group that just begins to do something and everything we do is prepared for. When time comes, we shall talk about it (succession).”
The president said that some things are left unattended to not because they are less important but because their time has not reached.
“It is important but its time will come,” he added.
He noted that on most occasions people spend much of the time discussing the ‘who’ but leave out the ‘what’ which he said is wrong.
The debate was started by the president’s son-in-law Odrek Rwabogo who asked the NRM to start thinking and discussing the successor of Museveni.
On the issue of demolition of Nakivubo stadium, Museveni said those against developing the stadium are not visionary.
“Those are people who don’t have their country at heart. Let him (Ham Kiggundu) continue but if he fails, someone else will be tasked to develop it,” Museveni noted.
