Thousands of Buganda royalists thronged Kings College Buddo in Wakiso district this morning to mark King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s 61st birthday.
The event as has been the tradition, was graced by many officials from both the Kingdom and the Central Government including ministers, Members of Parliament and heads of various institutions.
Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and the Kampala Capital City Authority Executive Director Mrs Jenifer Musisi were present, and were called forward to greet the King.
This year’s event was unique as it was held at the same hill where King Mutebi was enthroned as King of Buganda back in 1993, 27 years after the traditional institution was abolished by the central government.
In his message, Kabaka Mutebi called for betterment of education in the country and to enhance it’s accessibly to all children.
He also urged parents across the kingdom to support government’s efforts to provide free education through the Universal Primary and Secondary Education.
Mutebi further called for the youngsters to be furnished with knowledge about the culture and values of Buganda Kingdom, noting that, “a country without culture can never develop.”
At the event, as has been the norm, Mutebi made special recognition of the works of 67 year old Moses Matovu, the founder of the famous Afrigo Band and the band itself which has entertained the nation and the region since 1975; as well as harnessed young talents in the music industry.
