More shocking revelations are coming out of the infamous Shs6bn Handshake saga as Parliament’s committee investigates the actors and the beneficiaries.
On Wednesday this week, Ojambo P. from Uganda Revenue Authority stunned the nation when he told the Committee on Commissions Statutory Authority and State Enterprises that he got Shs29.2million after taxes for photocopying documents.
Today the Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Henry Malinga has the same treat for the committee, narrating that his portion of the handshake was deserving because he participated in “looking, identifying, finding and preparing” documents.
“My role in the Heritage Oil and Gas case was to look for documents, identify them, find and prepare,” Mr. Malinga said.
The differences between the roles were not explained to the committee. Mr. Malinga according to available documents that were first published by ChimpReports on the 2nd of January 2016 got 262,508,953.33 before taxes.
Meanwhile the Records Assistant at the same ministry, Joyce Mbabazi who got Shs50m before taxes, also told the committee that she played the same roles.
Parliament in mid-January started investigating the cash bonuses in which 42 government officials awarded themselves hundreds of millions.
The government officials involved in the saga led by the URA Commissioner General, Doris Akol have been telling the country that the 42 beneficiaries played “extraordinary roles” in ensuring Uganda wins the case against the British oil giant, Heritage Oil and Gas limited.
Last week ChimpReports exclusively published terms of the contract which indicated that Ugandan government officials and lawyers simply acted as clerks while much of the work was done by foreign lawyers at high costs. The current Parliament investigations are unearthing facts confirming the same.
