A total of18 Kirumira Mutima youths loyal to Rwenzururu King Charles Wisely Mumbere have surrendered to the security operatives, officials have said.
This follows a campaign by the Kabarole district leaders and security on Wednesday calling on parents of the youths to advise their children to surrender through the government offered amnesty.
On Wednesday the security officials rushed to Katebwa and held urgent security meetings at three separate places following intelligence that the Kirumira Mutima youths numbering 70 and in possession of five fire arms were regrouping in the mountains.
In the meetings, the leaders urged locals to speak to the youths to abandon the group with a guarantee that no one would touch them if they surrendered peacefully.
On Friday, security officials from Kabarole district led by the District Police Commander Musa Tibakirana welcomed the youth at Kyamukube trading centre, Katebwa Sub County.
These surrendered and handed over the weapons they had to the officials after making statements.
Those who surrendered include Nehemia Mutwanga, who claimed to be the acting chief co-coordinator of Kirumira Mutima in charge of Katebwa and Kyamukubi town council territory.
Mutwanga disclosed that they were misled and recruited into rebel activities after being promised jobs and big salaries when they struggle and create the Yiira Republic.
John Manume, the district councilor for Katebwa Sub County who witnessed the surrender, said some came presenting Identity Cards portraying them as royal guards and possessing appointment letters from Rwenzururu kingdom.
Musa Tibakirana the DPC Kabarole district appealed to the people to peacefully surrender the weapons used in training and fighting before the government regards them as rebels.
The District chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga warned the remnants that armed rebellion is not a solution to their problems but a dialogue.
