Brighton Sengendo, an orphaned 13-year-old from Mbarara is seeking help to study from Ntare School, the same school that President Yoweri Museveni went to.
The teenager completed his Primary school at Biharwe Mixed Primary School and excelled, scoring 4 aggregates.
His dream he says is to become an engineer when he grows up, but also to study in the same school as President Museveni.
Born in Kanyara village, Biharwe Division in Mbarara municipality, the youngster was raised together with his seven siblings by a single mother after his father passed on in 2010 while he was in elementary school.
Coming top of his class of 37, Sengendo’s excellent performance at the UPE founded Biharwe School came as a major surprise to both his family and the school.
While speaking to Chimpreports, the boy said getting such good grades was not a simple task. He was on a day program and rushed home early everyday to help his mother with home chores.
He also says that on numerous occasions he lacked basic scholastic materials such as books and pens because of the family’s limited income.
Brighton wants to study hard and become an engineer so that he can stand in for the mother and his siblings.
He is now at home helping the mother in house duties but worried whether he will join Senior 1 like most of the pupils who performed well in the P.L.E exams.
Yesterday, the boy went to the President’s office in Mbarara asking the RDC for help.
But with no such bursary arrangements available in her office, the Resident District Commissioner Capt. Martha Asiimwe asked any Good Samaritans to come in and help Sengendo realize his dreams.
“He is a very bright boy. You can clearly see an engineer in him, we hope that kind hearted people will support him,” said the RDC.
