The 23rd Prosecution witness in the case where Sheikh Yunus Kamoga and others 13 others are accused of murdering Sheikh Hassan Kirya , Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga and also the attempted murder of Sheikh Najib Sonko; has revealed that the late Kirya informed him that he was getting death threats.
This witness, who is a Senior Superintendent of Police currently undergoing training at the Police Training School in Bwebajja, told court that on 12th January 2015 he received instructions from Regional CID Kampala Metropolitan to handle a case of Sheikh Kirya who was claiming to get death threats.
He says on January 12 2015 he recorded a statement in which Kirya said he was getting death threats on his phone from Sheikh Hamidu Mbaziira, Sheikh Muluta Bukenya and Sheikh Siraje Kawooya, who he says were passing the information on behalf of Amir Sheikh Yunus Kamoga.
“All this was resulting from the power struggle and at one time Kamoga told us that he was restraining his dogs (youths) from attacking us but later promised us that Tsunami was coming. At one time I got a strange message from 0782344324 in Luganda threatening to kill me; I shared the message with Najjibu Sonko before reporting to Afande Musana for investigations,” read part of the late Kirya’s statement.
In cross examination however, the witness told court that he doesn’t know who murdered the sheikhs and neither was he told by the deceased that Kamoga was going to murder him.
Court accepted as part of evidence, the statement taken from the late Kirya amid protest from the defense side.
Further hearing of this case has been adjourned to 18th January 2017 when the prosecution will produce three more witnesses.
Prosecution contends that the leader of Tabliq Sect Sheikh Mohammed Yunusu Kamoga with 13 others and others still at large, between December 2013 and June 2014 at various places in Kampala, with malice aforethought unlawfully caused the death of two sheikhs, Sheikh Mustafah Bahiga who was shot to death at Bwebajja.
