Leaders in the eastern district of Tororo are calling for calm following the unexpected passing of the district LC5 Chairman Apollo Jaramogi.
Jaramogi died last evening at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala where he was undergoing treatment.
At the time of his death, he had intervened in the controversial debate to have Lubongi Sub-county and other parts of Tororo Municipality cut off to create two constituencies.
His intervention sparked a misunderstanding between him and the area Councilors, some of who reportedly threatened to kill him.
His death has created tensions in the region, where locals have began pointing figures at other leaders accusing them of being responsible.
Due to the rising tensions, Tororo district leaders including area Members of Parliament in the company of the NRM Chairman Electoral Commission (EC) Dr Tanga Odoi today called for an urgent press conference at Parliament on Wednesday.
“A section of Councilors led by one Abmelec had taken it upon themselves to go to East radio in Tororo and create all sorts of stories including but not limited to that that the Chairman is sick and we have given him only one month, he will be finished,” Odoi narrates to the media at Parliament.
Odoi said that this cheap talk had infiltrated the citizens forgetting that the late had several medical issues.
“We are calling upon members to calm down, this is cheap talk; the man had sickness as the medical report will indicate. You talk and a person dies, people are angered.”
