Anselm Besigye, 16, the son of Forum for Democratic Change former President Col Dr Kizza Besigye has been elected captain of the Oxford debating union.

This came after his campaign video was widely circulated by his mother Winnie Byanyima who is the Oxfam International Executive Director.

“I plan to host public exhibitions on hot button issues and current events… I plan to invite speakers from around campus to join in our beloved pizza parties so that we can get new debaters in the door, because we are and should be the biggest club at campus,” he lured fellow students during his campaign.

On Thursday morning, Byanyima revealed that Anselm had emerged victorious.

“He’s won!” said an excited Byanyima.

“Anselm -elected president of his school debating club. A Proud Mum,” she added on her official Twitter handle.

In 2014 at the Belmont Hill School, Anselm scooped a trophy in a school based debate about the fundamental issues like minimum wage for the working class people in society.

The debate in which the topic of discussion was to argue, whether the minimum wage in the US should be raised from $7.25 to $10.10, Anselm came out the best and was handed a trophy.

His promising talking skills to some, might be pointing to the possibility of him following in the footsteps of his parents who are considered amongst the country’s most seasoned politicians.

But Winnie doesn’t think so. She says her son has no interest at all in politics.
