CAA Denies Dragging Besigye Off Plane

The Civil Aviation Authority  (CAA) has defended its self against a case  filed in High Court that they violated Col Dr Kizza Besigye’s rights by dragging him off the plane staircases on his return to the country on October last year.

Besigye in his petition said that CAA violated his rights of free movement and association together with his friends as well as family members.

The Authority in their defense informed court that they learnt that Besigye had been dragged off their staircase and driven to unknown destination through media reports.

CAA further denied that it’s employees could drag a passenger off the plane. They stressed however that there are several security operatives at the Airport who put on reflector jackets labeled as CAA and that they could have been the ones who grabbed Besigye.

Therefore CAA  says Besigye should have sued the Attorney General who is responsible  for the acts of the national security operatives.

It’s on the above grounds that the aviation body has asked court to dismiss with costs this application.

Besigye last month sued CAA demanding compensation for his violated rights saying he was grabbed off a Kenya Airways aircraft upon landing at Entebbe Airport.

He says he was given a chance to go through immigration procedures before being driven through unknown routes leading to his home in Kasangati despite his waiting family, friends and supporters.
