The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has said he was saddened by the violence and sudden killings in Kasese late last month.

Over 100 people including police officers and the Rwenzururu royal guards were killed in the Rwenzori violence that climaxed with a joint operation by the UPDF and police onto the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere  place .

He was later arrested together with other royal guards and charged in Jinja magistrates court over various offences including terrorism, murder and plotting to overthrow government.

In his Christmas and New Year message on Friday, the Kabaka said the country has this year faced a lot of challenges that need not to continue in the new  year.

“Many of our people have died in accidents whereas others have been murdered through unclear circumstances,” the monarch said in his message.

“We are saddened by those who died in the Kasese violence and we hope government will do everything possible to investigate and take action on all those responsible for the acts.”

The Kabaka also expressed concern over the strikes at   Makerere University, which he said have affected students, parents and lecturers calling for negotiations into the matter.

On drought in some parts of the country, the Kabaka said conservation efforts like planting trees and conservation of swamps ought to be put in place by leaders at all levels to help combat the problem in future.
