Police in Mbarara has called Buhweju Member of Parliament, Francis Mwijukye to record a statement in the case of Shs 30million theft from Businessman, Eng. Innocent Rugyero.
ChimpReports broke the news of Mwijukye’s involvement in the case where the Mbarara Coffee Bar owner lost Shs 30 million from Grand Holiday Hotel, a place he was having an evening talk with Hon. Mwijukye and his colleague Stanley Katembeya.
The legislator would later publicly deny involvement in the case saying that he had not been called on by police to make any statements and had no idea about the case.
Mbarara Regional Police CID, David Ibanda however confirmed that there was a case filed and recorded under CRB 79/21/11/2016 adding that Hon. Mwijukye had been called upon to record a statement.
“It is true Eng. Rugyero reported a case of theft of Shs 30 million which he had forgotten in a polythene paper at Grand Holiday Hotel. The Police is still investigating although he doesn’t have specific suspects in this matter,” said Ibanda.
Mwijukye Called to Make Statement
Ibanda told ChimpReports that the two people (Mwijukye and Katembeya), despite not being specific suspects were called to police to record statements.
“Katembeya has recorded a statement but Hon Mwijukye has not yet. We have made an appointment with him and I hope he will be available to record a statement as is required.”
“As police, we have no specific suspects in this matter but whoever is involved, we shall hold him responsible.”
Contacted on phone, Hon. Mwijukye declined to make a comment on the issue saying he can’t comment about a case he has no idea about.
“You see there has been an imagination,” he said.
“Did police tell you there are people who sued me? Before you want anything from me you must be very clear about what the police wants me for.”
