President Yoweri Museveni has grieved the death of opposition Democratic Party Secretary General Mathias Nsubuga, who passed away on Sunday evening.

Nsubuga succumbed to a sudden stroke attack in Mukono town, from where he was rushed to Case Clinic in Kampala.

President Museveni this morning joined the numerous largely opposition politicians through social media to praise the legacy of the fallen politician.

The President described in a tweet, the late Nsubuga as “an open, tolerant politician who believed in dialogue.” The country would miss him, added the president.

Recently, government through Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda praised Hon Nsubuga for being open minded in the mainly opposition push for electoral reforms.

Nsubuga in July this year led a team of opposition politicians to State House and held a discussion with the President on the reforms.

Earlier yesterday, ICT Minister Hon Frank Tumwebaze said he was “saddened” by the demise of Mr Nsubuga who he termed as a friend, colleague and close associate. The two previously served together on Parliament’s finance committee as well as the Public Accounts Committee.

Tumwebaze also noted the Nsubuga was “Open for dialogue.”

The former Prime Minister Hon Amama Mbabazi said the passing of the DP Secretary General had “deprived the DP and Uganda of an extraordinary activist for freedom and justice.”

“Nsubuga’s death is an enormous loss to his family, the Democratic Party and to all who subscribe to democratic governance in Uganda,” tweeted Mbabazi.

Other mourners included FDC’s former Presidential candidate, Col Dr Kizza Besigye and his wIfe Winnie Byanyima among others.
