
Police in Kagadi District is holding a police constable who allegedly shot and wounded a 55 year old man in an operation to crack down on people without sanitary facilities in Muhorro sub-county Kagadi District.
The Kagadi District Police Commander, Peter Ongwara, identifies the suspect as Joseph Kyaligonza a police constable attached to Muhorro Police Post in Kagadi District.
The suspect is alleged to have shot and wounded William Bandiho, in Kajuma Village in Muhorro sub-county during the operation to crack down all residents without sanitary facilities such as Pit latrines, rackets, dustbins and Kitchen.
Joyce Mutume, wife to the victim says that it was at around 4am Thursday morning when he heard a group of about seven people who broke into the house and walked straight to their bedroom.
He husband she says tried to fight back as a scuffle ensued, and the intruders ended up shooting him in the leg.
Speaking to Chimpreports, Allen Kansiime, the Health Assistant Muhorro sub-county who led the Village Health team (VHT) operation said it was not the intention of the constable to shoot the victim but it was a result of a scuffle.
She said the victim William Bandiho threatened to hurt the police officer with a machete.
Emmanuel Asaba, the LC3 Chairman Muhorro sub-county has condemned the act, saying he was not informed about the operation.
The victim is currently admitted at Kagadi government hospital.
