The Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) has prayed for peace to prevail in the Rwenzori region as the country nears the festive season.
Addressing journalists at Namirembe on Thursday afternoon, the chairman Board of Trustees at the UJCC and the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali said it was regrettable that many lives were loss during the Rwenzori fighting last month. He said this ought never to happen again.
“We regret the events that culminated in the loss of lives both on the side of security forces, royal guards and other people in the area,” Rev.Ntagali said.
The archbishop noted that government ought to expeditiously carryout investigations and the culprits be brought to book as a way of creating peace in the hearts of those affects.
The Uganda joint Christian Council chairman also urged all parties involved to be transparent and also cooperate with authorities in a bid to help investigations that will bring the matter to end.
“For sustainable peaceful co-existence, all those involved should give room for dialogue, reconciliation and forgiveness so that a lasting solution is found.”
Over 100 people were killed last month when a joint operation between the UPDF and police stormed the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere arresting him and killing a number of his royal guards.
They have since been charged of terrorism, murder, treason and aggravated robbery charges by the Jinja Chief Magistrate’s Court and sent on remand.
Lawlessness
Meanwhile, the man of God also expressed concern over the manner in which the society is violating laws; stressing something ought to be done to stop this trend of affairs.
According to Rev.Ntagali, laws are put in place to govern society, and a society that follows the stipulated laws fosters accelerated development.
Ntagali warned over the increased number of fire arms in the hands of wrong elements in society stressing if it is not checked, these may become a menace.
