The National Resistance Movement (NRM) youths are planning to erect a monument in recognition of President Yoweri Museveni and his contributions to the pacification and development of Uganda.

Under the NRM Trust and Reward Association, the youths told reporters on the weekend that they decided on the special recognition of President Museveni, saying it was the least they could do.

“We sat and looked back where president Museveni got this country from and we found that he really deserves a lasting prize,” the association chairman Gerald Ahimbisibwe  said.

The monument, Ahimbisibwe said, will be constructed at the Entebbe Zoo which is near Entebbe Airport and hopes it will attract the attention of foreign visitors as well.

The structure he said will contain health clubs, offices and hotels.

While addressing journalists, the youths noted that Uganda has become a starting place of peace for neighboring countries and that war torn countries like Somalia, South Sudan, Burundi and DRC have benefited a great deal under Museveni’s regime.

Ahimbisibwe said the monument — the tallest in Africa – will not only be for Ugandans appreciating President Museveni, but the entire region as a whole.

The project is estimated at $21million dollars which is about 75billion Uganda Shillings.

Out of this,  the NRM youth leader said they have so far obtained Shs. 26.5million to commence construction early January 2017.

The youth appealed to Ugandans in and out of the country, multinational companies, NGOs, Donor agencies to come out and support the project.
