Nigeria’s Jim Iyke Expected as Film Fest Goes to Fort Portal

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) in partnership with Nile’s Diaspora International Film Festival (NFIEF) are taking year’s film festival, running from 16th to 23rd December, to Fort Portal.

The festival brings together artistes and other arts professionals to ‘influence the conversation on Africa through African stories told by Africa.’

“Film opens up opportunities for both employed and unemployed youth. It is a great opportunity to tell the Uganda story” says Stephen Asiimwe, the Executive director Uganda Tourism Board.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday at the Uganda Media Center, the Minister of Tourism in Toro Kingdom Ann Bagaya described this as a great opportunity not only for them but as a country, more so the youth who are going to gain a lot, through for instance film making training that will take place at the fest.

The Nile’s Diaspora International Film Festival is an annual event held since 2012 to harness the power of film in educating, entertaining and celebrating Africa.

“The film stars that will participate in the festival are Jim Ayke from Nigeria, David Fernandez Junior from Los Angeles, Rose Anguayo, Dericka Sternberg and Nkem Owoh among others,” She said

“We hope this film festival inspires young movies professionals as they interact with international stars” Asiimwe said.

He added that the film is a major player in and a catalyst for tourism and It’s great  to see that the film festival is in the beautiful town of Fort portal.
